The Old Cold Storage / by Pete O'Shea

Last week we had the unexpected pleasure of discovering The Old Cold Storage Warehouse-Architectural and Industrial Storage down in Arrington, Virginia. This cold storage facility was built by the federal government for Nelson County apple growers in the 1930's and today is the magical home of the various businesses run by Jeremy Hale. Inside this incredible structure sits a treasure trove of material memories. From room stacked with vintage wooden carts, to old cars and vintage bikes, to salvaged wooden beams and whole tree trunks, this place is stocked to the roof with history waiting to be transformed into a new and wonderful use. We found ourselves here along with Joshua Wheeler and Clay Hansen of The Thomas Jefferson Center for the Protection of Free Expression scouting out shipping containers that Jeremy will be helping to transform into a mobile Free Expression Wall and Gallery over the next few months. We can't wait to get going on this fun new endeavor.
